Player Welfare

Our approach to safe, age-appropriate youth rugby and player wellbeing.

Effective date: August 19, 2026

Player welfare comes first. Livermore Lions aims to provide a safe, welcoming, age-appropriate environment in which children can learn and enjoy rugby.

1. Age-appropriate rugby

Training and competition will follow applicable Rugby NorCal and USA Rugby age-grade requirements. Our youngest groups focus on movement, rugby skills, games, and non-contact or flag formats. Contact rugby will only be introduced where permitted for the relevant age grade and with appropriate coaching.

2. Equipment

Players should wear appropriate athletic clothing and footwear and bring water and sunscreen as conditions require. U8 and older players should bring shin guards and a properly fitted mouth guard where required by the club or applicable competition rules.

3. Coaching and supervision

Coaches and volunteers are expected to follow applicable background-check, safeguarding, certification, and training requirements established by Rugby NorCal, USA Rugby, the club, or applicable law.

4. Medical and first-aid support

The club will seek appropriate first-aid and medical support for activities where required. Individuals serving in designated medical roles must hold any qualifications or certifications required for that role.

5. Injuries and concussion

Suspected concussions and other injuries will be handled conservatively and in accordance with applicable governing-body requirements and medical guidance. A player may be removed from participation where a coach, referee, medical volunteer, or parent has a reasonable welfare concern.

6. Conduct and safeguarding concerns

Bullying, harassment, abuse, discrimination, retaliation, and unsafe conduct are not acceptable. Concerns should be reported promptly to the club so they can be addressed and, where appropriate, escalated to governing bodies, law enforcement, medical professionals, or child-protection authorities.

7. Parent and guardian role

Parents and guardians should inform the club of information reasonably necessary to support their child’s safe participation and should keep emergency contact information current.

8. Contact

Player-welfare concerns can be sent to hello@livermorerugby.com. For emergencies, contact the appropriate emergency services directly.
